Kevin started his own software company in the basement of a small Toronto home along with his 5 year partner Gary Babcock. In 1999, the Learning Company was sold for $3.7 billion USD. O’Leary left in 2000 surrounding a legal dispute over the financial condition of the company at the time of sale, in which a securities class action disputed that its top insiders knew or chose to disregard the truth about TLCs poor financial condition. He finally paid Alec Gores, of the Gores Fund, to take over the business, retaining a small equity stake.
